Introduction

Rising to the Challenge

The Bristol clinical fraternity welcomes home the UKCS and is excited to host the 18th UKCS Annual Scientific Meeting.

The first meeting of the International Continence Society (UK section) took place in Bristol in April 1994. The 2 day meeting was the idea of Paul Abrams (the Honorary Secretary of the International Continence Society at the time) and comprised a mixture of guest lectures, proffered papers and a workshop on continence services.

The participants were from a variety of backgrounds and included urologists, gynaecologists, nurses, physiotherapists, physiologists, neurophysiologists, pharmacologists and even a vet.

It was resolved that the 2 day meeting should become an annual event. Therefore ICS (UK), now called the United Kingdom Continence Society, was born in Bristol in 1994.

In 2011 we will be delighted to host the annual meeting again at a time when a long term leading practitioner nears official retirement after a long and distinguished career. Millenium Brige, Bristol

The region's specialists and practitioners have come together with a common desire to host this national meeting and have put together an exciting educational programme.

We have invited a variety of national and international guest speakerswhowill appeal to all disciplines with an interest in managing incontinence.

The host committee has also arranged for there to be plenty of time to network in places of historical interest giving wonderful insights into Bristol and its history.
